In addition to presentational performances Jack has been involved in traditional arts training and education activities:

Workshops – Swannanoa Gathering Celtic Week; West Virginia Elderhostel; Florida Elderhostel; Florida Folk Festival; Common Ground on the Hill; Common Ground Scotland; John C. Campbell Folk School; Lauder College, Scotland.

Examining – External examiner for the Graduate and Post-Graduate Degree in Scottish Music, Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow.

Training and Development – Consultant to the Traditional Music Tutors’ Training Network (developed a complete tutoring qualification which was nationally validated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority in 2004)

Publications – Reviews for Culture and Tradition (Newfoundland) and Living Tradition (Scotland)

Non Musical – Jack was a college Head of Department in Scotland for 14 years, holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh and is now a free-lance consultant specialising in management training and qualification development.
